Dr.  Victor Kwame Agyeman

has been the director of the CSIR-Forestry Research Institute of Ghana (FORIG) since August 2007. Prior to his appointment as director, he was a Principal Research Scientist at CSIR-FORIG and head of the Natural Forest Management Division of FORIG.  He served as the Co-ordinator of the National Forest Plantation Development Programme from January 2000 to December 2003. He co-ordinated the plantation development programme of the Forestry Commission (Public Agency); Timber companies and other private companies; and communities and individual farmers. Dr. Agyeman has exposure in the International front. Currently, he is also one of the leading authorities on Tropical Forest Ecology of Africa. He is a member of the technical panel on Forest Quarantine (TPFQ) of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) based at the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Rome, Italy and also a member of Panel of Experts, which drew up and revised the "Criteria and Indicators (C&I) for Sustainable Forest Management" for the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) of the United Nations. The C&I have been adopted by the International Tropical Timber Council (ITTC) for use by 50 member countries.

He has consulted extensively for the World Bank (WB), USA, Centre for International Forestry Research, (CIFOR), Indonesia, African Timber Organization (ATO), Gabon, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Rome and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) Germany, and International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), Japan.  

Dr. Agyeman has published extensively in diverse local and International journals.  He has authored one hundred and eight (108) edited publications and  eports.

Dr. Agyeman has a PhD in Tropical Forest Ecology and a Degree in Law (LLB). On-going research interests include natural resource ecology, policy, legislation, governance and management.
