Project activities
Activity 1: Creating basic infrastructure
All necessary buildings and infrastructure will be built and completed: an independent nursery, offices, a training centre, canteen and some storage sheds. Nursery staff will be trained in producing quality seedlings. The nursery will have a capacity of a minimum of 700,000 young trees produced per year.
Activity 2: Establish a model plantation and train staff
A first 100 hectares, consisting of regional teak provenances combined with indigenous (timber and non-timber) species, are established. This plantation serves for demonstration and training activities. In 2009 a further 500 hectare will be planted.
All key staff is trained in technical aspects as well as specific administrative skills associated with sustainable forest management. In 2009 some 25 hectare will be established as a pilot project to test an intercropping system with small holders.
Activity 3: Complete model plantation and commercial forestry service
The project receives considerable technical assistance to develop the necessary skills for setting up commercial forestry services that will be developed and offered commercially. This activity will include:

In-house and on-site training programmes for third party commercial businesses and government forestry bodies
